THE
LEGION GOES NORTH From
lands we have forgotten To
a country none knows On
the way of all our fathers The
long stride goes. The
great hills gather darkness And
late larks fall. But
Oh! the glory singing In
the hearts of us all! The
little roads, the by roads Strike
up across the fell Into
what vales of tarrying Not
one of us can tell. For
us it is the straight road, And
night nigh at hand, The
way of all our fathers Over
the borderland. Valerian,
Victorious, We
praise the Lord of Light For
dead days and live days And
strong camp at night. Content
that ever on the Wall A
great star gleams, Thy
flame of everlastingness Dear city of our dreams.
